Marmaduke is one of four kittens born to one of the queens from a feral colony that Pawz for Thought rescued in our city centre. He’s a lovely little tyke, five weeks old and already full of beans. Trust me, the sad face is just an act! If you would like to adopt him or any of our other wonderful animals, please go to www.pawzforthought.org. Thank you!

These babies were the product of an affectionate stray that we rescued from the street… a very pregnant girl! All of them stole my heart and had such fun and loving personalities. (L-R) Haru, Yoda, Ricky, Bob (the odd one out), and Paige. Yoda ended up staying with us and our three kitties, the remaining four were adopted out through a local rescue group to good homes, including Momma! They are all so special to me and gave me a wonderful and rewarding experience.

These are our two new Tonkinese kittens that will come home with us in four weeks time. Milo is the one at the front and Oli is sound asleep at the back! They are a terrible twosome who will be joining our other two tonkies Amy and Joey.

Here is Stitch at seven weeks old. She’s exploring her new kitty climbing frame that’s next to the frog tank, her other favourite place to explore.

We recently took in two strays that were living on our property. Cosmo had two sisters that we adopted out, and now him and his momma have joined our two other kitties inside. Cosmo loves the endless supply of toys, food, and lovin’s that comes with being indoors. Oh, yeah, taking naps on the bed is a big plus, too!

Pumpkin is my second rescue from our local feral mama cat whom we have since trapped and spayed. This is a rare moment of quiet for this little bundle of energy. We call her “The Litter Box Police” because after one of her sisters uses the box she’ll inspect to see if their “gifts” have been adequately covered. If not, she’ll tidy up.

The Kittenmaster Writes: Yesterday I visited the site of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster in Ukraine. I spotted this little fellow just outside the 10km exclusion zone, where we stopped for lunch. He looked happy and healthy, and was certainly very friendly (and yes, I know he’s not strictly a kitten, but I thought you’d like to see him anyway). Animal life in the area, after originally suffering terribly (all small mammals were dead within a couple of years) has actually flourished since the accident, and the absence of humans for two decades has done more to benefit wildlife than radiation has damaged it. Growing numbers of Mongolian horses can be seen roaming the landscape, and the abandoned town of Pripyat, once home to 60,000 people, is inhabited almost exclusively by bands of fearless wild boar.

We first started as foster parents to Hermione. She was testing light-positive for feline leukemia and couldn’t be put up for adoption until she tested negative. She continued to test light-positive for two months. However we were thrilled to learn that her last test had come back negative. Of course by this time we had fallen in love with her and couldn’t bear to let her go, so we decided to officially adopt her. Hermione is an extremely playful black and white kitten who loves to pounce, especially on anything with a bell. She also has a very distinct eating habit. She removes each pellet of dry food from the bowl individually and pounces on it several times before finally eating. She’s independent but loves to snuggle up next to us at bed time.
